She asked Judy Tole if she had any comments. - Mrs. Tole was chairman of the committee that wrote the local Family Life Curriculum. The program sets out several areas that are supposed to be covered at each grade level. Teachers are told not to go into areas that are supposed to be covered in later grades.
“I hate to say, ‘I told you so,’ but I did,” Mrs. Tole said. “We argued strenuously for lowering the grade for some of these objectives. We made it conservative to make it acceptable... Every family has the responsibility to talk with their children, to lay down the foundations for values, and to teach them to be proud of themselves. ”
Stonewall-Hawthom District representative John Tole said he felt the Family Life Curriculum is “very positive. It’s not just a sex ed class. It’s how to respect oneself and others, developing the inner strength that steers people away from risk taking behavior. But these numbers are shocking.”
