Rappahannock’s representatives to the General Assembly are mostly taking a “wait and see" attitude towards Gov. Douglas Wilder’s deal with Jack Kent Cooke to move the Washington Redskins team to Alexandria.
“I’m in favor of a stadium being built in Virginia, but I have a lot of concerns about the $130 million in bonds,” Del. Jerry Wood, D-31st, said. “Eighty percent of the people I talk to say they are in favor of a stadium in Alexandria or close by,” he said. “They feel it . will be an asset to the Virginia economy, but there are concerns about the taxpayers’ money.”
Del. Wood said he had no information about the deal “beyond what I’ve read in the paper. And I’m not going to jump to conclusions. The reaction by the Alexandria city council may be justified, or it may be knee jerk. I will wait until I see the whole plan and what incentives there are to bring Alexandria
