Virginia State Trooper S.A. Hawkins said Yun Lee, 8, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:30 p.m. accident, and his grandmother, 54-year-old Cheng-Yueh Lee, died at Fairfax Hospital later than night.
Hawkins said the two were backseat passengers in a 1990 Honda Acura, driven by Mrs. Lee’s son, Tayang Fu, 31, also of Baltimore. Fu, who was e'astbound on U.S. 211, failed to negotiate a curve just east of Mayhugh’s Store and the car ran off the left side of the pavement into the median strip. He said it flipped over approximately four times.
Hawkins estimated the Honda was travelling between 65 and 70 miles per hour when the accident happened.
Hawkins charged Fu with reckless driving, and said additional charges may be filed. The Honda was destroyed.
