Tickets are available for the Shenandoah National Park performance at Byrd Visitor Center and Dickey Ridge Visitor Center, and at the office of Interpretation and Visitor Services at Park Headquarters 8 a.m.-4:30p.m. Monday-Friday.

A review in The Des Moines Register called the show “a skillfully scripted production” and assured readers that “First Lady Lou” is “very much worth spending an evening to discover one of the country’s “lost’ First Ladies.!’ U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, who saw “First Lady Lou” at the Smithsonian, called it “truly outstanding.”
Through a remarkable portrayal by Riverside Theatre actor Jody Hovland, “First Lady Lou” brings Iowa-bom Lou Henry Hoover to life - in Act One as a young mother in 1914 and, in Act Two, in 1944 as the weary, reflective wife of an unpopular former President.
The script, by Rebecca Christian of Dubuque, Iowa is based on letters, diaries and other documents included in Lou Henry Hoover’s personal papers on file at the Hoover Library-Museum.
