(Editor’s note: Last week we reported that Tucker Rogers and M ichael Wharton, both students at Rappahannock County High school, took part in the inaugural festivities. We asked them for a personal report on their adventure.)

The first day of rehearsal was spent standing in a practice room filled with almost 200 different saxophonists for about 2 1/2 hours. For the better half of that time, we were told what was going on and what we would do, such as block the stage for Bill Clinton.
We were also given medical release forms. Even though every one of us came ready to play, we weren’t allowed to blow our horns or we were “out.”
Finally, our band directors were given music and passed it out to us. We finally found out we had to play “America the Beautiful.”
“Oh by the way,” Our director, Bill Clemons, mentioned as we all crowded out the door, “this has to be memorized. See you tomorrow.”
Well, Tucker hit the sack pretty early, so the next morning he was ready to try and memorize my music on the Metro ride to the Kennedy Center.
