Where are all the conspiracy theory folks when we need them?
I’ve seen a few veiled references in news reports to some behind the scenes intrigue that may have existed in the strange case of a grand jury’s refusal to indict Senator Charles S. Robb, but nothing beyond that.
I am not suggesting either that the grand jury after 18 months of deliberation did not reach the right conclusion, although in Rbbb’s own words federal grand juries will usually indict “a ham sandwich” if federal prosecutors ask them to.
When an eminent conservative like Wesley Pruden of the ultra-conservative Washington Times says the pardon was unsurprising and the whole incident was no big deal anyway then you can assume that the grand jury action is not going to come in for a lot of critical fire.
Yet at the same time the grand jury was letting Robb off the hook in terms of criminal prosecution, it was returning indictments against Virginia Beach developer Bruce Thompson who allegedly passed along to Robb’s office illegal tape recordings of separate conversations involving then Lt. Gov. Douglas
