At the elementary school several regular classrooms and modular classrooms have been split in half for special education and remedial education.
None of those classrooms would meet any of these standards. The largest is approximately 450 square feet. Also none of these classrooms is specifically designed for less than the minimum number of students allowed in special education classrooms.
School Superintendent David Gangel said the special education classroom standards are now recommendations rather than requirements. He anticipates that when the proposed standards are adopted for regular classroom sizes, the recommended sizes for special education classes will be adopted ds requirements also.
