He was told by board member Ed Barton that the 70 watt, color corrected bulb in the sample fixture on Main Street is an experimental bulb and is not in production. Mr. Barton said after the meeting that he had been so informed by Mrs. Kevis.

<i The board had two concerns about the fixture. The specifications call for the support arm to be made of galvanized steel. Mrs. Kevis . wanted it to be eithfer made of , wrought iron or painted black. Although the board members agreed the fixture is appropriate, several made it clear they much prefer the acorn globe fixture. “One is designed . to light the street for vehicular traf; fic and the other is more for pedestrian traffic,” said board member Patrick O’Connell.

“The pedestrian (acorn) fixture is a better choice because the town gains so much (of its tax revenue) from visitors who enjoy walking along our streets,” he added, t Mr. O’Connel finally put this mo, tion on the table: “While the ARB strongly recommends against the Trimble House (radial arm) fixture on the basis of comparable appropriateness with the acorn fixture, it has no objections to the historical accuracy and therefore we approve this fixture.” It passed.

Quarter horse

sale scheduled

The 24th. Annual Eastern Midwinter Sale is scheduled for the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington on Jan. 30-31.

The sale is national in scope, and limited to 400 quarter horses and paints. Every year it has attracted over 4,000 buyers, legitimately averaged over $2,000 per horse with 85 percent completed sales.

The eastern mid-winter sale has featured buyers and sellers from 44 m states and Canada.
