“Not only is this an issue with revenue lost, but it’s also a fairness issue,” she said.
Forst estimated that, nationwide, more than $3 billion is lost each year in uncollected use tax and - that Virginia lost nearly $60 million last year. Since Congress has not required mail-order firms to charge consumer-use taxes, other states are affected as well and are also attempting to recover these taxes.
