ArCom Publishing Inc., owner of the Rappahannock News and Fauquier Times-Democrat, purchased the McLean Providence, Fairfax County’s oldest weekly newspaper, and the Great Falls Current from Dear Communications Inc. last Tuesday.
The purchase gives ArCom’s Times Community Newspapers a total of 16 weekly newspapers with a combined circulation of nearly 200,000 households in Northern Virginia.
“These newspapers represent a long-standing tradition of community journalism in McLean and Great Falls, and we are very proud to have them as part of our Fairfax County group,” said Times Community Newspapers’ Publisher Arthur W. Arundel, who raised his family of five in McLean.
David R. Deal Sr., who bought the Journal in 1986 from longtime owner William Elvin, said last Tuesday: ' ArCom’s record of small city newspapering is outstanding in the publishing field. We feel confident the readers of our papers will be served with excellence.”
