In recent attacks, Del. Jay Katzen’s opponents concentrate on one issue — development — to urge his defeat.
Politics isn’t that simple. It covers many areas, disturbing as that may be. Even if for you the “defining issue” is abortion, or a balanced budget, crime, education or term limits, take a wider look.
Focus on a candidate’s broad views. Do that and the differences are clear: for the Democrat, ever bigger, more intrusive, costlier governments. For the Republican, the reverse.
Del. Katzen’s opponent revealed her guiding principle at Amissville recently. She said the choice is between “...dismantling government [that’s how Democrats refer to lower taxes, fewer bureaucrats, a reduced Nanny state] and making it more effective and focused.” Can anyone doubt she’s a Big Government Democrat?
