Phillips, they state Stephen C. Dodson died in Hospital in Culpeper, Aug. 18, 1861 from measles.
The Deals stated they had visited his grave many times with family. Stephen C.Dodson served about one month.
The other Rappahannock soldier was Joshua W. Burke who was 20 when he died at the hospital.
Following the memorial service, a luncheon was held at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper.
During the awards ceremony, Mr. Charles Robert Priest was awarded the Cross of Military Service.
Mr. Priest was a Pharmacist Mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving in the Pacific. Mr. Priest is a line descendant of Mason Priest (his grandfather) who served in the Confederacy as a private in Company G., 12 Reg’t Virginia Cavalry, (The Laurel Brigade).
Mr. Priest has been a lifelong resident of Amissville except for his World War II service time.
The Cross of Military Service is the highest award given to a veteran by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
