Like Cari, Tamika Washington did not play last season. Coach Conklin plans to have her begin the season at forward. “Tamika is our best leaper, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with her ball handling ability. As the season goes on, and she improves, we may use her back there.”
Charity Brown and Larisa Roberts will help out in the backcourt. Larisa, who starred on last season’s JV team, will see action at both guard positions. She is one of the best defenders on the team. Cahrity missed last season, but has the skills to challenge those in front of her for minutes.
Jennifer Woodard and Dawn Havstad have moved up after strong seasons with the JV last year. Jennifer can work inside and out, but will probably go to the backcourt this season. Dawn will see time at the center position.
Rounding out the team is foreign exchange student, Brenda Swinkels. Brenda, from Holland, had not played basketball prior to this season. Coach Conklin is very happy with her progress. “She learns very quickly. We’re all amazed at how well she’s picked up the game.”
The Panthers lost scrimmages to Warren County and Madison County. They opened the season on the road against a tough Central team Tuesday night. The Panthers first home game will be Thursday night against a beatable Manassas Park team.
