To the Editor:
Delegate Jay Katzen supported Disney, so vote him out. That’s the word from the environmental elite and a group of “Republican Against Katzen.”
OK, I wasn't on Jay’s side of the Disney issue, either. Preserving the rural character of the place where I live is my parochial interest, and 1 don’t mind fighting for it. But Jay Katzen represents the people who were on the other side of the issue, too, and he had to make his decision based on what he thought was in the public interest. If he were purely prodevelopment, or purely anti-development and no-growth (as his election opponent most assuredly is) he would not be able to do his job.
(With the Democrat we would get one hundred per cent no-growth voting, no question about it. We would also get opposition to cuts in government spending, and opposition to any change in the public schools that offends the teachers’ unions. We would weaken our chances of overthrowing the Democratic dynasty that has ruled our General Assembly since Reconstruction. These are heavy costs to pay to get a no-growth legislator.
