While the theatre draws its audiences from an unusually wide area, from Charlottesville and Washington, D.C. to Maryland and even Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the Friends point out that local residents can often hear right in the community some of the performers whom they would otherwise have to travel in to Washington, D.C. to enjoy (at much greater cost in both time and money.)
Children and their parents are a special group of people whom the Friends hope to encourage in increasing numbers to try the theatre’s musical performances. Exposure to good music at an early age can lead to a life-time’s appreciation and pleasure, they say. Unlike many supporting organizations of similar name, the Friends of the Theatre is not a fund-raising organization. They see themselves as friends of the Piedmont community as fully as they are friends of the theatre. Their purpose is to extend the theatre’s already enthusiastic local audience to include more residents of the region.
Friends of the Theatre welcome participation in their informal group by everyone who shares their interests. Those wishing to join or leave messages for the Friends may contact the group through the Theatre.
