They hope the tavern room will become a gathering place for local people and plan to have food available there after the kitchen is closed, light foods that can be served cold or heated up in a microwave oven.

Mrs. Eldred said they put in * year of thought, planning and evaluation of the market before deciding to go ahead with the project. They have received a lot of encouragement, they say.

Mr. Eldred will continue to rim the Washington House lighting business in the shop building next door while Mrs. Eldred runs the restaurant.

“The location is perfect, and the demand is there,” Mr. Eldred said. “We’ll see what the public wants and try to provide it.”

Mrs. Eldred said she hoped to have the business open by Christmas. The project will require extensive alterations to the interior of the building. Much of that is already underway.

At next week’s meeting the Town Council will also be dealing with an application from The Inn at Little Washington to expand the kitchen with additional overnight guest rooms upstairs.
