is there that invited members of the audience traditionally gather with cast members after a performance.) The Friends think of the Green Room as any nearby location where audience and artists may meet in a social setting.

Edward Barton, who founded the Friends, along with other Rappahannock residents, Bill Young, Hallee Morgan, and Mary Ann Kuhn, says that the purpose of the Green Room program is to “welcome the artist to the community and to give the people in the community the opportunity to meet the artist.” The program also provides an informal setting for people interested in music and theatre to meet and discuss performances, he added.

The theatre’s general manager, Wendy Weinberg, said she was delighted with the establishment of the Friends. “They provide another way to reach out into out community and welcome people in to the theatre,” she said. She added that she hopes others will join the group in helping to spread the word of the Theatre’s programs.

The Friends see the Green Room as a part of their more general goal of finding new ways to bring to the attention of Rappahannock and other nearby Piedmont residents the opportunity which the theatre provides to hear fine performances of music, as well as occasional live drama.
