John W. Jones, executive director of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute said. “The members of the Sheriffs’ Institute have successfully raised more than $46,000 to date for flood assistance through the generous donations of caring Virginians. This is our first award of funds, but it will not be our last. We will continue to work with our local sheriffs and the Hands Across Virginia volunteers to see that every penny of contributed funds are used to help rebuild homes and lives.”
David Caprara, director of the Department of Housing and Community Development, announced the contribution saying, “The Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute and its statewide membership have exhibited extraordinary leadership, along with Hands Across Virginia, in getting cash assistance to flood victims who lost everything in the recent disaster. Once again, the spirit and generosity of Virginians has come to the fore to aid our neighbors in need.”
