Hurricane Fran visited our area with a vengeance, dumping enough rain to cause flash flooding in several surrounding counties. Many residences were without electricity and other families had to be evacuated. Police helped VDOT block access to flooded roads. To all the men and women who assisted these people, to the men and women who worked to get the power back on, and to the men and women who volunteered their time to work the fire and rescue squads, we thank you and salute you!
This is a good time to remind everyone that our local Fire and Rescue companies need your donations continuously, not just during special drives or events.
Make plans now to attend the Jeffersonton Community Center's annual Fall Craft Fair and Ruritan BBQ lunch on Saturday, September 28. The Craft Fair is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tables are available for crafters for $10.
