Schneider had entered the park at 6:15 p.m. on August 30 at Swift Run. His rental car, a red 1996 Hyundai, was found by ranger's parked in the White Oak Canyon parking area on Sept.’5. The car was traced to Mr. Schneider, and it was found that he had been reported missing on Sept. 2 to the Arlington police.
Mr. Schneider is. described as a 5'11" white male weighing 190 lbs. with dark brown hair, blue eyes and an athletic build.
Ms. Rothgeb said that a military helicopter flew over the park on Tuesday, but Mr. Schneider was not found. Park staff are being assisted in the search by the Blue and Gray Search Dogs, Dogs East, Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference, and the Virginia Dept, of Emergency Services.
A burglary was reported on Sept. 4 by Tom Wolfe of Route 707 in . Sperryville. Reported missing were a VCR, a Sega game and CD player.
On the same evening, Jason Ruffner of Route 1001 in Sperryville reported that numerous tapes, a CD player and a .308 bolt action rifle were taken from his apartment.
On Sept. 3, Patty Jolliffe of Route 729 in Amissville reported that a cellular phone was stolen from her daughter's car.
