or five needy families for Thanksgiving. The Piedmont Valley Ruritan Club in Delaplane is donating several food baskets to the local churches.
People Helping People, a non-profit charitable organization, is serving as a referral service for needy families. The organization will refer the needy to any number of local churches that are conducting food drives. For information, call PHP at (540) 349-9017.
The Catlett-Calverton-Casanova Ruritan Club is working with Liberty High School and Cedar Lee Middle School to make gift baskets for needy families.
The Marshall Ruritan Club is serving up turkey and all the trimmings to more than 300 people at their annual senior citizens dinner on Dec. 1. The event will take place at the Ruritan's headquarters in Marshall.
And Fauquier residents will likely see the familiar sight of the red Salvation Army kettle outside several shopping areas soon.
The Salvation Army reports that 90 percent of all donations made in Fauquier will stay in Fauquier, providing gifts, dolls, food and clothes to the poor.

There are dozens of opportunities to help those less fortunate this holiday season. To volunteer your time or to donate gifts or money, Fauquier residents need only contact their local churches or one of the many service organizations in the area.
