Originally begun in 1987 as a Children’s Shop, where children could buy inexpensive gifts for parents and siblings, Gumdrop Square expanded into a child-sized village in 1993 when the Partnership for Warrcnton Foundation Inc. took over.
The eight miniature storefront holdings, with inviting windows at child's-cye level, were designed by muralist Brian Gibson and painted by Wakefield School art students. Dale Koglin, Warrcnton chief of police, made a model train layout and a "cobblestone" floor cloth was painted by the
