: Legislation Continued
A subcommittee of the House Courts of Justice decided Jan. 21 to ; pass by for the day the legislation to repeal the 1979 statute that permits marijuana for medicinal use. The panel decided to wait for the results of an ongoing study by the Joint Commission on Pain Management.
The subcommittee also voiced concerns about the language of the bill that would outlaw doctors from prescribing the smokeable form of marijuana but would allow the medical use of synthetic forms of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) — namely marinol.
"The smoked form is the form of abuse which is what I’m here for,” said the bill's chief patron Del. Robert Marshall, R-Prince William.
