To the Editor:
When was the last time you attended a sporting event? Starting in August and extending to May Rappahannock County High School supports over 100 children in a variety of sports.
Student athletes exhibit great dedication. Participation in sports results in long hours, physical and mental exertion, and a great deal of self discipline. What drives students to participate in sports is a love of the game — a love so strong they endure long practice hours, followed by tired sore muscles, three-hour bus trips, late night homework, and cold dinners.
Student athletes dreams are filled with first place finishes, game winning shots and goals and grand slams. However, funding the events that inspire these dreams is a major expense. Rappahannock County Vligh School athletics provides opportunities for students to participate in such events as cross country, basketball, volleyball, track and field, soccer, baseball, softball, and wrestling. Supporting these programs comes with a large price tag.
On Feb. 15, Rappahannock County High School invites you to help maintain its "Field of Dreams." The Athletic Department is sponsoring a "Dance to Enhance" the athletic program at the high school from 8 to 11 p.m. Live entertainment will be provided by the sensational Southern Persuasion Band. If you have missed the opportunity to hear this band, now is the time to hear them and support a great cause.
Roses will be sold during the event to rekindle the thought of Valentine's Day and there will be a raffle and door prizes. Pre-sale tickets are being sold by student athletes. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
