Rappahannock's JV wrestlers had their first home match against Sherando last Thursday, and then competed in a four-way match at Fauquier Saturday.
Against Sherando the team lost 12-72, but RCHS wrestlers won seven of 19 matches, including three labeled "exhibition" matches.
Chad Heddleston won at 103 pounds; Thomas Lee won at 119 pounds; Willie Collins won by a pin at 125 pounds; Tommy Baldwin won at 130 pounds;. Chris Graves won two matches at 140 pounds, one by a pin; and Jason Kuykendall won at 275 pounds with a pin.
Coach Paul Paratore noted that this match followed a month during 1 which the team had no opportunities to wrestle other schools and few opportunities to practice. Sherando is known as a "powerhouse" in wrestling, he said. "They are doing much better than expected," he said of his team.
Four RCHS wrestlers won first place medals in a JV Invitational Quad Meet at Fauquier Saturday against wrestlers from Fauquier, Liberty, and Osborne Park. Chad Hedlleston won three matches, one by a pin, and lost one match to take first place in the 103-pound class.
Mark Komar won two matches by pins and lost one to take first place in the 112-pound class.
Frank Paratore won four matches, all by pins, and won first place in the 125-pound class.
Tommy Baldwin won three matches, one by a pin, and won first place in the 130-pound class.
