Mr. Heddleston said that this is the third year of teaching character virtues. Watching television for just four minutes, he saw many questionable things, he said. He feels that what is being taught at the elementary school are the building blocks of what is taught at the high school.
‘The children should be immersed in good positive based literature,” he said. He added that if a child does something exemplary in class they call the parent and tell them.
Board member Ron- Makela asked. Mrs. Tupper if parents are being brought into this character virtues program. “I think parents really need help in this area to go along with this program,” he said.
Dr. Gangel said the schools here may be the only ones in northern Virginia that have a character virtues program. “It is something we should really focus On,” he said.
Three seventh graders gave reports of their Williamsburg class trip and thanked the board for the opportunity to visit Williamsburg.
