he felt people in town should be interviewed to find out where the problems are, or the state could come in and ‘ perk every lot in town.
Ray Gooch said he felt that it was • more important for the town to look at their long term problems. Mr. " Tompkins said he would like to see the town control their own destiny, and Town Attorney Frank Reynolds sug- -* gested that the town decide where to go from here because there will be more septic failures in the future.
Mr. Tompkins reminded everyone that there is not a crisis now. “I want the community to think about this and talk about it. It is a planning thing,” he stressed.
Mr. Gooch added that Mr. " Tompkins wanted to get the community involved, as does the Town Futures Committee, which Mr. Gooch heads. “We are at a crossroads,” he said, and everyone in the town will be affected 1 ■ by what the committees do. “Get involved early rather than late and have an impact,” he told the large crowd which attended the meeting.
Though he said he was not push- - ing for a sewer, the subject is some- = thing that will have to be addressed, .7 said Mr. Tompkins. Mayor Stewart Willis said that he would like to find - out what options are available.

In other business, the quandary about possibly displaying Robin, > Purnell’s paintings in the Town Hall has been solved. Mrs. Diana Bird *•; informed the council that the paintings , •• will hang in the county library. >
A town meeting will be held on May 28 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the possible expansion of town boundaries. All property owners of the pos- :•> sible expanded area have been sent •. notices to attend the meeting. >
A public hearing was held on the town budget. Dean Morehouse and Brad Fisher, former mayor and trea- •.> surer of the town, respectively, dis-.' cussed the three phases of the water system. They said the third phase of-;-, the system, storage, has been approved and only funding is needed, which-’ should total from $200,000 to*i $300,000.
Council member Peter Skowronski said he felt that payroll should be split, * up between the water works and the . < town budgets, so they would know , exactly what the water system costs. <
Definition changes to the town’s ordinances, prepared by the town . Planning Commission, were recom- , mended by Susan Parrish, Chairman of the Planning Commission. She said that, the process of working on the defini- ’, tions was secondary only to the street -, light issue.

Mr. Morehouse mentioned how Mr. , Eldred had overcome so many obstacles. with the power company when doing the town’s lighting system. He pur - chased a light from Mr. Eldred’s shop, Washington House of Reproductions, and said he will have it installed in the** parking lot by the Town Hall. •’
