New Bridge

A Mistake

To the Editor:

Why did the Highway Departmen make a terrible mistake when recon structing the new bridge on 729 When the old wooden bridge wa washed away not too long ago by th flood, it was replaced by a new con crete bridge. Why were adjustment not made at that time to relocate tb new bridge down the stream some t< . line up with and build up the big dro| in the road? As you come down 72' from Ben Venue there is a big drop ii the road and it bears to the left jus before the bridge which is on a curve

NAfter spending all that money on ; new bridge, it was a good time t( make a change for safety reasons They should have lined the new bridgi up with the road and fill in the bij drop. If this had been done, it woult 1 have saved the live of three younj people recently.

In my opinion, what happened tc cause these accidents is that when yot come down 729 from Ben Venue, yot just come to this sharp drop over tht hill which bears to the left just before the bridge. This is on a bend in tht road and when you try to slow dowr you then lose control of your vehicle.

This is the most dangerous ai night. Now, who will be next and whai can be done to prevent anothei tragedy? Ask the Highwa) Department. Maybe there should be e sign put up: STOP — LOOK — LISTEN.
