“Variety is the Spice of Life” as the age old adage declares. Variety is also one of the recommendations in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The U.S. Departments of Agriculture as well as Health and Human Services offer this guideline. Eat A Variety of Foods, for proper nutrition and health.
Today’s article will focus the variety of foods in the “meat group”. The words “meat group” is a summary of foods from both plant and animal sources. Foods from this group include meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs and nuts. The recommended number of servings are two or three per day. A three ounce portion of edible meat is a serving.
