Looking for
an apology
On Oct. 7,1 attended the
First Thursday Education Group’s meeting with Paul Asciolla.
During the discussion he made several erroneous statements. Since others in attendance were asking questions of Asciolla, I tried to offer correct information to him. He informed me that as it was “not my meeting he would not debate me.” (A polite way of shutting me up.)
During this meeting I heard the most hate-filled, anti-Christian, bigoted diatribe I’ve ever been subjected to, while being supported by smiles and nods of approval by some in attendance. It must be said that there appeared to be a disproportionate number of Democratic Party activists in attendance.
Asciolla made personal attacks on individuals in Virginia who are involved in Christian education and who don’t know him and are not campaigning against him.
After the meeting, Asciolla shook hands with me and stated, “We have differences of opinion.” I told him “either he was misinformed or deliberately misinforming his audience.” After which, he called me a “liar.”
I tried to reason with him about the numbers he tossed around and about the Virginia Association of Counties (VACO) brochure where taxpayers money was used to support Don Beyer. He saw nothing wrong with it.
I re-stated my first statement and Asciolla called me a “liar and a spy.”
This meeting was advertised in several issues of the Rappahannock News and I received two mailings from the educational group announcing it. Rappahannock County citizens tax money pays the $12,000 a year rent for the Extension agent office where we assembled.
