October is Breast Cancer

Awareness Month. This is a good time to think about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. The most important symptom of breast cancer is a painless mass. Other symptoms may be persistent changes to the breast or breast pain.

The facts and figures indicate a rise in the incidence of breast cancer since 1940. However, between 1989 and 1992, breast cancer mortality declined 4.7 percent. The recent decline in breast cancer mortality has been attributed to improvements in breast cancer treatment and increases in breast cancer awareness and screening.
