Horseshoe tournament set
A horseshoe tournament will be held at 1 p.m. on May 30 at the Chester Gap carnival grounds. The price is $12 per team. Trophies will be awarded to those placing first, second and third. For information call Jeff at 636-3279.
Vacation Bible School set
The .Washington Baptist Church and the Trinity Episcopal Church will co-host Vacation Bible School at the Washington Baptist Church June 15-19. This year’s theme is Down on the Farm. Mrs. Gretchen Long is director. For additional information call Mrs. Long at 987-9044.
Rev. Phillip Bailey is pastor of Washington Baptist and Rev. Jennings Hobson is pastor of Trinity Episcopal and with the Bible School teachers and director extends an invitation to all area children to attend.
Farmer's market now open
Countryside Farmer’s Market is open next to Mayhugh’s Grocery in Amissville. They plan to sell fresh local fruits and vegetables every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the season. If you are interested in selling wholesale to the market contact Kathy at 937-5309.
Health programs scheduled
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board invites persons 60 years of age and older to participate in the following Health Promotion/Screening Programs to be held at the Rappahannock Senior Nutrition Center:
June 5 at 1 p.m., Program on Diabetes by Kelley Wonsetler and Kay Largent of Warren Memorial Hospital; June 19 at 1 p.m., Low impact Exercise by Elbe Clark; June 22 at 12 noon Program on Learning about Hearing Aids and June 29 at 11:30 a.m. Program on Blood Sugar by Melinda, Public Health Nurse.

Contestants sought
The Amissville Volunteer Fire Department is seeking contestants for Carnival Queen, Princess and Little Princess. Winning is based upon the number of tickets each young lady sells for the cash drawings held on the last night of the carnival. The age groups are: Queen ages 14-20; Princess ages 8-13 and Little Princess ages 3-7. To register and receive tickets, please contact Sandi Carter at 937-4218.
The annual carnival will be held this year June 24-27 with the parade being on Thursday, June 25.
Adventure camp days set
TASC for Teens of Jeffersonton is organizing and leading two 2-week Canadian Wilderness Adventure Summer Camps for students ages 10-17; a Canadian Canoe Expedition on July 11-24, and a Canadian Lakeside Fishing Camp on Aug. 1-14. The trips will leave from Jeffersonton and include transportation, qualified and caring staff, meals, most camping equipment and activities.
