ing stories of lost rings being found. Two stories that I have heard are worth relating.
A Naval aviator went on a flying exercise. He took the ring off his finger and put it in his shirt pocket. While doing loops the ring fell out and into the nooks and crannies of the aircraft never to be recovered (or so he thought). Many years later a workman in an aircraft graveyard in Arizona was salvaging recyclable parts when the long lost ring fell out. It was returned to the Academy and then to the owner.
The next story is quite fascinating. A Navy captain was piloting a lighter than air dirigible. (I was told this story by the captain’s daughter with whom I carpooled at one time) I’m confused about whether the name of the dirigible was the Akron or that it was wrecked near there in terrible storm. All of the crew were killed.
The captain’s ring was not recovered at the time. Years later a farmer walking through the field saw the glitter of gold on a tall weed. The ring was returned to the fami
