ONE AND ALL Those who stand themselves apart from the human condition not only deprive humankind of sympathy and thoughtful action, but they withhold from themselves valuable insights that would otherwise lead to a better understanding of life. This isolationist attitude is exemplified by the words of English poet and playwright Edward Young, who wrote: "All man think men mortal, but themselves."
