The Rappahannock Monarchs defeated Winchester 13-6 in a game that kept all on the edge of their seats Sunday.
Winchester scored the first run in the second inning. The Monarchs scored their first run in the third and the score remained tied until the sixth inning when Winchester scored three more runs.
But in the seventh inning it was a different story. The Monarchs offense came alive. With Jason Brown leading off the inning with a walk, followed by Brian Hackley’s double which lead up to a six run seventh inning attack for the Monarchs. They then scored six more runs in the ninth inning and it was over.
Jon Diggs was the winning pitcher for the Monarchs going five strong innings before Luther Alexander, who also did an outstanding job, came in as relief pitcher.
Griffith Ward led the Monarchs offense with a double and a single.
The Monarchs next game will be Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. against Edinburg at Bing Crosby Stadium.
