The Culpeper Minute Men Chapter, NSDAR, met at the Culpeper Methodist Church on Tuesday, Sept. 8 with the Regent, Mrs. George Bryson presiding. She welcomed members and visitors to the first meeting of the new administration and thanked the hostesses, Mrs. Claude I. Guinn, Mrs. Vincent R. Beasley and Mrs. Marvin C. Goff.
In the President General’s message, read by Ms. Carolyn B. Butler, thanks were given to all DAR members for their support following the death of her husband.
The speaker for the afternoon, introduced by Mrs. Dan K. Shackelford, was the Chapter’s previous Regent, Mrs. Irvin Kilby. Dressed as a sailor of the 1790’s, she spoke on the history of the U.S.S. Constitution, affectionately known as Old Ironsides. She was given this name when, in August 1812 during the War of 1812, she sank a British warship to the great consternation and chagrin of the
