I suggest that you look at the form and see who the horse has been running against. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen a horse who won its last start by a couple of lengths or less over another horse in the same race facing that same rival in today’s race. The winner the last time out will often be a short-priced favorite, while the horse that lost by a small margin is overlooked in the betting.
My research says that in'a situation like that, you are better off betting the last-race loser. The odds are better and the chances of winning are as good as — or maybe better than — the one that won the last race.
