by two and a half feet, four of the pictures are collages of several layers of quite differently textured paper.
One of the most striking works is called “November Mountain,” a combination of a variety of blues that makes one ask how these shapes and colors could be so remarkably controlled and meaningfully combined. My other favorite was a collage, “Thru the Vessel,” which includes a white, gauzy transparent paper related to other textures and a group of apparently stenciled, small crosses, and much else.
Like some other exhibitions we have been fortunate to see at the Middle Street Gallery, Moore’s show is unique. Where else could one find an increasingly mature example of paper “paintings” as dexterously made of well composed designs? To watch over the years the development of an artist, as we have done in the instance of Moore, is one of life’s more rewarding experiences. The exhibition continues through September.
