3. Horse name. Ditto.
4. Last year’s and lifetime record. Figures show number of starts in a give time period, number of wins, seconds, thirds and total earnings.
5. Entry’s color, sex, age, sire, dam and breeder. Colors are gr. - gray, b. - bay, dk.b. or br. - dark bay or brown, ch. - chestnut. Sex is g. - gelding, f. - filly, m. - mare, c. - colt, h. horse (or unaltered male 5 or older.)
6. Past performance. Shows date of last start, type of race, time, chart calls, finish place, rider that day, payoff (if any - there are few parimutuel steeplechases, however), top three finishers and a notation of how horse ran. The final phrase often “tells all” about a horse’s chances.
