“Sliding Doors” will be shown at The Theatre on Gay Street, Friday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m. RAAC sponsors this contemporary romance that takes place in London and features Gwyneth Paltrow playing Helen, an unfulfilled public relations specialist. The movie opens after Helen has been fired and shows her heading home on the “tube.” At this point, the film takes parallel tracks — in one scenario she makes one train and arrives home in time to witness her boyfriend’s infidelity. In another she misses the train and remains oblivious to his cheating. Peter Howitts clever direction keeps the fanciful premise from ever collapsing. It contains sexual situations and lots of delightfully British vulgar slang. (PG-13, 105 minutes)
