I have just returned from a quick trip to Indiana to visit my sister and was shocked by Mrs. Adolfi’s letter (see Rappahannock News June 9).

I have to set the record straight. Let me begin with the dump site. Charles Jenkins took out 21 dump truck loads of trash and hauled them to the landfill in Amissville for which he received $2,100. I am told the health department is satisfied with our efforts so far. Is there more trash? Yes, about 10 more truck loads in the ravine.

Did Mrs. Adolfi offer to buy two acres of our land? Yes, but what she did not tell you was that over my frustration of her wanting to block “anything” to change the land, I offered to sell it to her, the whole 36.17 acres, not just two acres. She called to say she was not going to buy all the property, but wanted two acres instead. The implication was that if I sold her two acres she would not fight the project. I withdrew my offer to sell any of the property on the advice of Mr. Russell and Mrs. Cloud, both previous owners, business partners and excellent friends. I did not call her back.

I have as friends and clients three people who are quadriplegic. Having hosted them on numerous occasions I am completely sympathetic with the enormous difficulty they have accessing housing in general, let alone a vacation location. From day one I have insisted that we have a facility that can host my good friend Phyllis Wyeth who is confined to a motorized wheelchair.

Did I say we want to make money? No, I believe I said we must make money. How else does one pay for employment, maintenance and the hundred and one other things necessary for a successful
