The Farmer’s Market on Route 245, just outside The Plains, is open from 11 to 4 on Sundays. This unique market is held in the cool shade of the Archwood Green Barns where horse stalls have been converted for sellers of local produce.
Market Manager, Michael Barreda, has assembled a varied and unique number of venders. These range from Heidi Eastham’s goat cheese, Sally Melo’s native wild shrubs along with shitake mushrooms grown on her Rixeyville Farm, and Karla’s cheesecakes in a wide variety of flavors from key lime to chocolate. Susan Fraser’s organic beef is full flavored yet remarkable tender. John Trott, the Virginia Naturalist, and his wife, Lee, sell homemade preserves; jelly and pickles. Trott reports that his Hot Pepper Jelly, called ‘Authorative’ by one taster, sells out early in the day. Framed portraits of Virginia birds by John Trott are also on display in the Trott stall.
