card companies. There are presently two scams in particular which people need to be aware of. The first type involves a scammer claiming to represent your bank. This person calls to tell you that your bank is having difficulty meeting Y2K requirements, and that bank customers must transfer money into a bond account. The person will then ask you to confirm personal information, such as account numbers, and request verbal authorization to transfer funds. The second type of scam has to do with credit cards. The scammer calls and tells you that, due to Y2K concerns, you will need to get a special strip put on your credit card. They will then attempt to verify your credit card account number.
