At its June meeting last Wednesday, the Washington Town Council received, from the Planning Commission, a revised “Comprehensive Plan for The Town of Washington, Virginia.” The plan defines the town in terms of character, population, natural features, economic issues, and finances, and addresses town goals, objectives and policies.
Included in the proposed additions to the plan is the following found in the section on Economy and Employment: “Despite the current and future uncertainties of the economy, the Town government’s finances appear to be in very sound condition. ... in large part, the strong financial position of the Town is due to its reliance on the meals and lodging tax . . . Further, The Inn is ah important fiscal resource for the Town . . . producing a relatively large income . . .” The draft revised Comprehensive Plan will be reviewed by Council members, and aired and discussed at a future meeting.
