Responding to concerns about the demolition of historic structures, David Cole withdrew demolition plans for parts of the Mercantile Building and replaced Charlottesville architects McDonough & Partners with local builder Peter Kreyling. At the Washington Town Council meeting of Oct. 13, Kreyling provided a drawing and letter detailing revised plans for the Sunnyside Farms Market Place.
As described in the letter, revised plans scale down the changes and include addition of a porch and new fencing to the Mercantile Building; removal of additions to the Kramer cottages, leaving the original cottage and smokehouse; reenclosing the smokehouse with windows on its east side; addition of a trellis and patio between the cottage and smokehouse; replacing the concrete steps of the Clopton House with wooden steps as ir .he original design; and remc J of the shed roof over Eileen Day’s entrance and addition of a porch that matches the design of the south side porch.
