The Blue Ridge Civil War Round Table will hear an authority on the Civil War in this region at its next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Old Sperryville Bookshop.
The Round Table held its first meeting last month, attracting a good turnout of about 30 local people who are interested in learning more about the War between the States. Joseph Whitehom, a retired U.S. Army historian, presented a program on the fighting in the Shenandoah Valley in 1864.
The October meeting will feature a talk by Madison County author Harold Woodward Jr., who is recognized as an authority on the war in this area. Mr. Woodward, who is the duthor of three Civil War books, is active in many Civil War activities, including the Sons of Confederate Veterans. His talk on the war in Madison County will cover local battles, troop movements and encampments, and the impact of the war on local people.
