“Am I Blue?”, recent paintings by Margaret Novak, a Middle Street Gallery member, resident at Syria in Madison County, adjacent to Rappahannock, will be on show at the gallery until Oct. 24.
Her eleven oil and acrylic on canvas works are colorful celebrations of the mountains, forests and fields she lives among.
Novak’s exhibition title is not meant to suggest a want of cheerfulness, but rather the opposite: how well blue combines with other natural hues. The paintings are landscapes, sometimes simplified almost to abstractions, although one is never in doubt about the inspirational scene.
