program set
for Oct. 31
The Rappahannock County Historical Society will hold a special program Sunday, Oct. 31 on “George Washington’s Other Women," about the women who helped shape George Washington’s life and career. The public is welcome.
The program is part of the society’s fall quarterly meeting at 3 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Courthouse on Gay Street. Refreshments will be served.
The talk will be given by Frank Walker of Orange County, an authority on George Washington’s life and the history of the Piedmont area. He will be dressed in costume as he discusses George Washington’s influence in this area. Walker, a lawyer and former farmer, will be discussing the influence of George Washington’s sister, mother, wife ana girlfriend, Gay Fairfax. It has been romantically rumored that young George Washington named Gay Street here after the beautiful Gay Fairfax.
