HEAVEN ON EARTH
We have it within ourselves to override the earthly influences that attempt to make us less noble than we are capable of being. All that is required is that we adhere to our inner impulses to do good, and do nothing to betray those around us. Although we may be tempted to respond in kind to those who do not wish us well, doing so only depletes our heavenly nature and betrays the goodness of our souls. As Seneca wrote: “The mind is never right but when it is at peace within itself, the soul is in heaven even while it is in the flesh, if it be . purged of its natural corruptions, and taken up with divine thoughts and contemplations.” Finding that well of kindness within, whether we are dealing with a sick relative, a demanding child, or the interrupting phone call, only adds to our own growth and the well being of others.
