Skyline Ski Resort will be open for business starting Friday. There is plenty of snow! The roads are open to the area, according to the manager, Frank Louckes. He says the snow is of excellent quality for skiing and conditions are favorable.
With sunny but crisp weather, over 1,200 people ventured out to attend the Rappahannock Hunt Races held Saturday at Thornton Hill Farm, Sperryville. From the junior races to the hound race, all proved interesting and exciting.
The worst storm of the winter blew across the eastern section of the country Monday and Tuesday with snow ranging up to 40 inches. Critical power failures paralyzed Rappahannock and surrounding areas and telephone service is not yet completely restored. Snow here measured from 25 to 30 inches. Power and phones were out for as much as 12 hour stretches, with poles snapped off and wires falling. Virtually all business and travel was at a stand-still.
